CSU and Fort Collins: Working for our community
The fortunes of Colorado State University and Fort Collins have been intertwined for more than 150 years. CSU is one of the region’s largest employers and home to more than 30,000 students who learn, live and work in our community.
Students are neighbors. They’re customers, volunteers, and coworkers. What’s good for them is good for Fort Collins, and the other way around. They, along with faculty and staff, are a big part of why Fort Collins is one of the best college towns in the nation.
CSU and the City work together to strengthen neighborhoods, solve shared problems, and keep students and longtime residents talking to one another. We want Fort Collins to stay a good place to live for everyone who calls it home.
City/CSU Community Liaison
Malissa Larson is the City/CSU Community Liaison, a joint position reporting to both the City of Fort Collins and CSU.
Her job is to keep students, residents, city staff, and university leaders talking. She listens to what the community has to say and carries it back to the people making long-term plans on both sides.
The role grew out of more than 20 years of work on student and resident relations, including party registration and good neighbor programs. It’s expanding now to support broader partnerships and clearer communication between the city and the university.
